Roy Williams Tie Tracker, NIT Final Edition: Dayton

One thing all UNC fans have come to know, love and expect of Roy Williams is his fashionable selection of ties, most often courtesy of Chapel Hill outfitter Alexander Julian. The same man who put the argyle on the side of the basketball uniform is still turning heads with what he’s putting around Ol’ Roy’s neck. So, here at The Rafters we decided to pay homage to the best accesory in college hoops, if not the entire sporting world, and document every tie Roy Williams wears this season.

@therafters has been too distraught since last Thursday to post the last Tie Tracker of the season. Here it is (typed in a  very sad manner).

We’ve seen this guy already in the NIT. UAB felt the wraith, as did Miami. Blue and white paisley, which the paisley had held up pretty well during the season. Unfortunately, not so much this time.

Roy Williams Tie Tracker, NIT Final Four Edition: Rhode Island

One thing all UNC fans have come to know, love and expect of Roy Williams is his fashionable selection of ties, most often courtesy of Chapel Hill outfitter Alexander Julian. The same man who put the argyle on the side of the basketball uniform is still turning heads with what he’s putting around Ol’ Roy’s neck. So, here at The Rafters we decided to pay homage to the best accesory in college hoops, if not the entire sporting world, and document every tie Roy Williams wears this season.

My, weren’t we treated Tuesday night in the Garden. Not only did we get the OT thriller, but per usual, Roy was the best dressed man in the building.

Now, we’ve already seen this combo in the NIT, but what @therafters missed previously is that the tie is in fact not a white background, but light pink/lilac. I think this only strengthened the case for this possible being the best tie of the season.

    Here’s this years stats:

Game 1: Florida International, W 88-72 – Small paisley in aqua and dark blue with pocket square

Game 2: North Carolina Central, W 89-42 – Large paisley in Carolina and navy blue and gold with pocket square

Game 3: Valparaiso, W 88-77 – Large paisley-ish in gold, navy, brown and Carolina with pocket square

Game 9: Kentucky, L 68-66 – No tie, white shirt with no jacket, pre-game pinstriped jacket with pocket square, black arm sling

Roy Williams Tie Tracker, NIT Edition: University of Alabama-Birmingham

One thing all UNC fans have come to know, love and expect of Roy Williams is his fashionable selection of ties, most often courtesy of Chapel Hill outfitter Alexander Julian. So, here at The Rafters we decided to pay homage to the best accesory in college hoops, if not the entire sporting world, and document every tie Roy Williams wears this season.

Three great games in a row, all wins. For all those people who didn’t want to go to the NIT: for shame.

If the tie looks familiar, it should. Roy wore this in the final regular season home game/2,000th win against Miami. The white paisley on Carolina blue kept with the streak of paisley in the NIT. What does @therafters think? We like it.

Roy Williams Tie Tracker, NIT Edition: Mississippi State

One thing all UNC fans have come to know, love and expect of Roy Williams is his fashionable selection of ties, most often courtesy of Chapel Hill outfitter Alexander Julian. So, here at The Rafters we decided to pay homage to the best accesory in college hoops, if not the entire sporting world, and document every tie Roy Williams wears this season.

Damn. For the first game any UNC team has ever played in the state of Mississippi, Roy pulled out the stops. I think I’ve used that term before on here. But this was actually the correct usage of the phrase.

Carolina blue jacket. Large paisley in a dark blue with a white background. Starkville had no answer, for Roy’s outfit or Larry Drew’s crushing layup, high off the backboard in the waning seconds of the game.

Unfortunately there weren’t a lot of great photos from the game.

    Here’s this years stats:

Roy Williams Tie Tracker, NIT Edition: Williams & Mary

One thing all UNC fans have come to know, love and expect of Roy Williams is his fashionable selection of ties, most often courtesy of Chapel Hill outfitter Alexander Julian. The same man who put the argyle on the side of the basketball uniform is still turning heads with what he’s putting around Ol’ Roy’s neck. So, here at The Rafters we decided to pay homage to the best accesory in college hoops, if not the entire sporting world, and document every tie Roy Williams wears this season.

As UNC senior Will Hemsworth would say, “I would buy that man dinner.”

In the first round NIT matchup played at Carmicharl Auditorium – the first time the men’s team has played in that arena since 1986 – Coach was looking daper. This is the same combo we saw very early this season against Valpo.

Even better than the tie, Ed Davis had his nickname “Easy Ed” monogrammed into his cuff.

    Here’s this years stats:

Well if yesterday didn’t make your weekend then I don’t know what your problem is. The Boys played great against a quality opponent and Roy looked great while coaching them.

Keeping it simple with a plain Carolina blue tie, Roy also brought out the pinstriped suit and pocket square. No Tar Heel lapel pin, however, which he also lacked last game but wore the previous two.
