Game Preview: Miami
Last time around we thought the Tar Heels had a pretty good chance against the unranked Miami Hurricanes in Chapel Hill. Since then Miami has yet to lose a game and has skyrocketed to 8th in the polls. We like to think that it’s about time they lose.
- On the first Miami preview we admitted to being very scared of Kenny Kadji. UNC was just the beginning of his conference ascent. Since ACC play started, Kadji has increased his ppg 3 points to 15.2. His rebounds have slightly fallen but that’s due in part to Julian Gamble’s emergence and Reggie Johnson’s return. Basically, there are a lot of big men for Miami that can play pretty well.
- Durand Scott still gets deserved attention for his contribution as a senior this year (13.8 pts) but it’s sophomore point Share Larkin who’s taken his game to the next level. Barry’s son has scored as many points a game as Scott in conference play, dishes out more assists, grabs more rebounds, shoots better from 3 and has the same amount of TOs. Scott is still very dangerous, but Larkin is rolling right now.
- Even with the win streak and rankings rise, Miami isn’t that impressive on paper. Nationally Miami is 118th scoring, 105th in rebounding, 254th in assists and 75th in FG percentage (UNC is 7th, 3rd, 2nd, 101st in the same categories). The Hurricanes have kept their opponents under 60 points on the season however.
- Not sure if UNC carries enough panache this year, but if you saw the Duke game you know Miami can be a tough place to play. Not looking forward to the atmosphere.
Miami is due a loss. It’s not coming on Saturday.
Prediction: UNC 55, Miami 68
