It’s Got to be the Shoes, 2010 – UNC Men’s Basketball Footwear Pt. I
Carolina is lucky when it comes to uniforms. Besides having the most beautifully designed uni in all the land, UNC also benefits from having the greatest basketball player of all time as an alum. The Jordan Brand and Jumpman logo have become synonymous with the university’s athletics department – which depending on how you look at it may be a good or bad thing – leading the basketball team having its pick of the litter when it comes to what they put on their feet.
The majority of players choose to stay within the Jordan brand, but they also have the option of branching out to other Nike products as well. Several other schools are also represented by Jordan (California, Georgetown, St. John’s, NC A&T) and most have their own signature player editions of the Air Jordan 2010 Team. Here’s a look at UNC’s edition.
While a lot of the team has worn the 2010 Teams, here are the other kicks that have been seen on the court:
Here’s the breakdown of what each player has been spotted wearing:
Dexter Strickland – Dex started out the season in the Air Jordan 2010 Team, which he wore at Late Night with Roy, against Barton, Lipscomb, Minnesota and Vanderbilt. He also wore them against Hofstra but there is no photo evidence of such. For the game against UNC-A he wore the Jordan 6 Rings “Jazz” and the Jordan Jumpman Pro in the last two games against College of Charleston and Illinois. The Jumpman Pro was a surprise to see as it is a holdover model from last year, one that Dex never wore in a game last season.
Harrison Barnes – The frosh has taken advantage of the footwear situation since getting to campus. At media day he was in the Jordan 2010 Teams and at Late Night was in the Jordan Hallowed Ground. For Barton and Lipscomb he switched to the Nike Zoom Kobe V before wearing the Jordan CP3.III “Tribute” against Hofstra and Minnesota in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, reverting back the the Kobe V the last day of the tip-off against Vanderbilt. He stayed with the Kobe against UNC-A but has worn the CP3.III in the last two games against College of Charleston and Illinois.
John Henson – John has been pretty consistent both in the paint and in shoe choice. While he wore the Jordan 2010 Team at Media Day, he has worn the Jordan Hallowed Ground at Late Night and against Barton, Lipscomb, Hofstra, Minnesota, Vanderbilt and UNC-A. For the last two games against College of Charleston and Illinois he switched to the Air Jordan 13 “Flint,” a recent release. John wore the Hallowed Ground last year some.
Justin Knox – While John may have switched up sneaks, another low post player has stayed the same. Alabama transfer Justin Knox must really love Chapel Hill because he has won the Air Jordan 2010 Team UNC PE at Late Night, Barton, Lipscomb, Hofstra, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, UNC-A, College of Charleston and Illinois.
Justin Watts – Watts has also not changed up too much. At Late Night he was in the Air Jordan 2010 Team, but otherwise wore the Jordan Take Flight for the beginning part of the season, including Barton, Lipscomb, Hofstra, Minnesota and UNC-A. He recently switched to the Jordan 12 “Rising Sun” for College of Charleston and Illinois, although there are only photos for the latter. Interestingly, the Jordan 12 was favored last year by several Heels but never by Watts, at least that we have evidence of.
Kendall Marshall – A more-often-than-not model of consistency, Kendall wore the Air Jordan 16.5 Team at Late Night and against Barton before settling into the Jordan Icons for the regular season against Lipscomb, Hofstra, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, UNC-A, College of Charleston and Illinois. Even though Kendall is a freshman, he has only wore shoes that debuted last season.
Larry Drew II – The point guard has not changed shoes this year. He has worn the Air Jordan 2010 Team at Late Night and against, Barton, Lipscomb, Hofstra, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, UNC-A, College of Charleston and Illinois. No photos from C of C.
Leslie McDonald – Leslie has been coming off the bench for some nice offensive sparks. He has done so in the Air Jordan 2010 Team at Late Night and against Barton, Lipscomb, Vanderbilt and UNC-A. Also most likely Hofstra and Minnesota. He changed to the Jordan 12 “Rising Sun” for College of Charleston and Illinois, a shoe he wore last year.
Reggie Bullock – Much like Kendall, Reggie has also been wearing a lot of shoes from last year. At Late Night he came out in the Jordan 16.5 team before switching to the Jordan Icons against Barton, Lipscomb, Hofstra, Minnesota, Vanderbilt and UNC-A. For the last two games against College of Charleston and Illinois he has worn the Jordan Take Flight.
Tyler Zeller – Big Z has been staying healthy and showing that although he may not be deep in the post, we are still very talented. Z was doing all of this in the Nike Hyperize – Late Night, Barton, Lipscomb, Hofstra, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, UNC-A, College of Charleston – but changed to the Air Jordan 2010 Team for Illinois. While some players wore the Hyperize last year, Tyler was not one of them.
