It’s Got to Be the Shoes: Preseason 2011-’12

The Heels are ranked No. 1 in all the preseason polls, and you know it’s got to be the shoes. In the very short preseason, the Boys have already been rolled out many a shoe model. The court has seen several new silhouettes from last season and new colorways of older models. Even the freshman class is showing out.

Here’s the models so far from the 2011-2012 season:

Air Jordan 3

Air Jordan 9 “University Blue”

Air Jordan 11 “Cool Grey”

Air Jordan 13 “Flint”

Air Jordan 13 “Neutral Grey”

Air Jordan 2011 UNC PE

Jordan Fly Wade

Jordan Fly 23

Jordan CP3.IV

Nike Zoom V

Nike Zoom VI

Jordan Big Ups

Jordan Pure J

Jordan Evolution ’85

Nike Air Foamposite “Retro”

Nike Huarache 2010

Nike Hyperdunk 2010

Here’s what the players have been wearing individually:

Dexter Strickland – Dex showed up to media day sporting the Air Jordan 13 “Flint” but has since moved onto the Jordan Fly Wade. He also tweeted that he wore the Fly Wades to represent for his favorite player, Dwyane Wade. Dexter wore neither of these models last season.

Leslie McDonald – Unfortunately Leslie is still sidelined with an ACL injury. He was in the team photo wearing the Jordan CP3.IV though. He wore the CP3.IV last year for several games.

Luke Davis – The Blue Steel member was has been rocking the Jordan Pure J. A model we have never seen before.

Kendall Marshall – Undeniably Kendall is the off-court shoe MVP of the team, but on-court he’s proven to be fairly predictable and consistent. Kendall has only been seen in the CP3.IV on the court. At late night, however, he showcased a DMV specialty – the Foamposite.  More on Kendall’s kicks later.

Stilman White – The other point guard on the roster has spread the shoes around. Media day saw the Big Ups. Late night brought the Evolution ’85, a model from last season, which seems a little strange as White was obviously not on the roster then. And the Fly 23 against UNC-Pembroke.

Desmond Hubert – Another freshman has also brought out the heat early in his UNC career. The freshman from New Jersey was in the “Flints” for media day and the Fly 23 against UNC-P.

P.J. Hairston – He looks like he’ll be consistently knocking down jumpers but he’s switched up between the Big Ups and Fly 23.

Jackson Simmons – The freshman big man was with many of his brethren in wearing the Big Ups during media day but switched to the “Cool Grey” against UNC-P.

David Dupont – Blue Steel is very much feeling the Air Jordan 2011.

Justin Watts – Watts was wearing the CP3.IV at media day, which he also wore during parts of last season, but switched colorways of the same model for UNC-P

Patrick CrouchSee Dupont, David.

John Henson – The Big Smile wore a colorway of the Jordan 13 at media day different than the “Flints” that he wore last season but was sporting the “Cool Grey” during gameplay.

Stewart CooperSee Dupont, David; Crouch, Patrick.

Reggie Bullock – At media day, Bullock was in the new Jordan Brand model, the Big Ups. During the late night and against UNC-P, Bullock has worn two different colorways of the CP3.IV. He wore the CP3.IV last season as well.

Harrison Barnes – In what may be an attempt to soothe things over with a famous alum, HB has been wearing the “Cool Greys” during media events. At late night and against UNC-P, however, he switched back to the Kobe V and VI respectively. HB wore the V model last season.

James Michael McAdoo – The highly touted freshman was bringing out a Jordan model we hadn’t seen in a while with the Jordan 9 in a delicious “university bluecolorway. At the UNC-P exhibition he was in the Big Ups. He also sported a colorway of the Jordan 3 at late night. Looks like they were the “True Blues.”

Tyler Zeller – A while back there was a meme that Jordan Brand footwear didn’t offer much foot support and sometimes led to injuries. Tyler Zeller has had foot problems in the past. He hasn’t worn Jordans on the court in a while. This year at media day and late night he was in the Big Ups but has played in the Huarache 2010 and Hyperdunk 2010.
