Preseason Player Profile: Leslie McDonald
Unfortunately for the Tar Heels, Leslie won’t be suiting up any time soon. The team’s best 3-point shooter from a year ago tore his ACL over the summer and will be sitting for at least the first few months of the season, if he returns at all. It’s a big blow, requiring Reggie Bullock and freshman P.J. Hairston to step up in his absence.
Just a quick little rant: McDonald tore his ACL playing in the NC Pro-Am, a league that operates during the summer in which a lot of college players from the Triangle participate. Even some NBA players come out. Some circles think it’s not wise to allow players to risk injury by participating in these events. I think that’s dumb. They just want to play basketball, so let them. We saw that Carolina players even played pick-up with their fellow students this spring and summer. That’s just cool. They’re just as much at risk to injure themselves in NCAA games and supervised practices. Any time they have a basketball in their hand they’re an injury risk. Don’t take the air out of the ball by condemning them from doing what they love in their spare time. OK, end rant.
