Wrap-Up: Wolfpack bring the Tar Heels back down to Earth

Box Score

The most recent loss is always the one that stays with you. That’s why even though Roy Williams is now 19-2 as the coach of Tar Heels against the in-state Wolfpack who just ended a 13-game losing streak versus North Carolina, it still stings. Real bad.

Writing this wrap-up is like cleaning a freshly-scraped knee with hydrogen peroxide. Sure it hurts now but it’s ok because we know it’s better down the road. Much like how we’re glad this UNC team doesn’t play Clemson in Chapel Hill this year, that 13-0 streak had to end at some point. It would have been a confidence boon to win that College Game Day showdown on their turf for the young team trying to find its way.

But hey, it could have been way worse. I mean they did score 50 points in 13 minutes and pull it within five against the 18th ranked team in the nation to make the final score respectable. If this game was against anyone besides the Wolfpack who we now just assume we’ll beat it wouldn’t be that bad.

  • Fifty-seven points in a half ain’t bad for a team that sometimes looks anemic scoring. Especially after only mustering 26 in the first half. Still though, it’s defense that really burdens this team. Correction, lack of defense. State was balanced in putting up a bunch of points in both halves (45 and 46) and never let off.
  • I’m actually tired of typing. We’ll go into it on the next pod.

  • Play That Will Stick With Us: Oomph! (With our apologies to Jackson.)
