Microneedling With PRP for Wrinkled Skin -What to Expect

If you are struggling with wrinkles and other signs of aging on your face and are looking for solutions, you must be aware of microneedling with PRP treatment or better known as a “Vampire Facial”. Vampire facials have gained much popularity after various celebrities started doing it. Even though it may look horrific initially, the results are worth it.

Microneedling with PRP aims to stimulate the growth of healing cells on your face to smooth out imperfections. One of the many reasons why Yonkers platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is preferred by many is because it uses your blood for the procedure instead of injecting your body with foreign materials.

How Does Microneedling With PRP Work?

The doctor draws a small amount of blood from your body and applies an anesthetic on your face. After that, they use a device on your face that contains small pins to prick tiny holes on your skin. This procedure stimulates the cells to start the healing process as well as stimulates collagen production. It also creates channels for the PRP to penetrate deeper into your skin.

While your doctor performs the microneedling procedure, which takes about thirty minutes, a clinician prepares the PRP. They will separate the red and white blood cells from the blood plasma by a process called centrifugation and create a concentrated PRP solution.

After the microneedling procedure, your doctor applies this PRP solution to the treated areas of the skin. PRP has proteins, including growth factors and cytokines. Applying PRP stimulates growth and collagen production and rejuvenates your skin.

What to Expect After the Treatment?

Since it involves using needles, the procedure may cause bleeding and mild discomfort, which is temporary. Immediately after the treatment, the doctor or a nurse applies a moisturizer and sunscreen on your face. The procedure may result in inflammation of your skin. But, make sure you do not take anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen to stop it as it may interfere with the rejuvenation process.

You may experience the following side effects:

  • Numbness
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Tenderness
  • Tingling
  • Redness
  • Lumpiness

In most people, side effects subside within four to six days of the treatment. However, if they continue longer than that or you experience severe effects like infections, report to your doctor immediately. To reduce swelling, you can use cold gel packs or ice.

After-care Instructions

  • Wash your face with a gentle cleanser.
  • Avoid your skincare routine for a few days.
  • Avoid direct heat or sunlight for at least a day.
